The Rhodesian Ridgeback is not classified as a "herding" breed per 'se... However, they do exhibit some very good herding qualities. The Ridgeback may have been used for a small amount of herding in Africa as well. We are able to get Herding Instinct Certificates on Ridgebacks, but until they are considered a herding breed, that's about as far as they can go. Either way, they typically are good at it, and have an understanding of what the shepherd wants from them. Their first instinct is usually to chase the herd, but after a few minutes they do settle down, and figure out what the handler wants from them. It is very neat to watch this process happen.
